20 Anglers, Four Rounds and a Brand-New Competition for Match Fishing
The first Fishub Premier League gets underway as 20 top anglers begin the battle to become our inaugural champion.
A new competition begins for Fishub as the inaugural Fishub Premier League gets underway, bringing together 20 anglers for four rounds of competitive match fishing at some fantastic commercial fisheries.
The opening round takes place at Tunnel Barn Farm on Monday 20th April, where all 20 anglers will begin with a clean slate and the opportunity to put those all-important first points on the board.
The Premier League has been created around a simple format designed to keep every round competitive. The 20-angler field is divided into two sections of ten, with anglers competing for points based on their finishing position within their section.
A section win earns the maximum 10 points, with points awarded down through the section. Across four rounds, consistency will be crucial, but with every point potentially making a difference to the final standings, there is plenty of opportunity for the championship to change as the season unfolds.
Four Rounds to Find Our First Premier League Champion
The opening round at Tunnel Barn Farm will mark the start of something completely new for Fishub.
Over four matches, the Premier League will take the 20-angler field to four different venues, testing them across changing fisheries, conditions and styles of fishing before the first Fishub Premier League champion is eventually crowned.
After the opening match at Tunnel Barn Farm on 20th April, Round 2 heads to Messingham Sands on 19th May. The competition then moves to Hayfield Lakes on 9th June, before the season reaches its conclusion at Monkhall Fishery on 30th June.
With ten points available for winning a section at each round, there is a maximum of 40 points available across the season. However, the format means an angler won’t necessarily have to win every match to remain in championship contention.
Strong, consistent section finishes could prove every bit as important.
Every Point Will Matter
Each match will see the field split into two sections of ten anglers. The winner of each section will receive 10 points, second will receive nine, continuing down to one point for tenth.
Those points will then be carried forward into the overall Premier League table after each round.
If anglers finish the season level on points, their combined weight across the four rounds will become the deciding factor. That means every fish caught throughout the competition could ultimately have a bearing on who becomes the inaugural champion.
It should create an intriguing battle throughout the season. One angler could dominate a round but lose valuable ground at the next, while someone consistently finishing towards the top of their section could steadily build a championship challenge.
Follow the Premier League as It Happens
Fishub will be bringing followers live updates throughout each match, giving you a taste of how the competition is developing, who’s catching and where some of the important battles are taking place.
Following each round, Fishub members will then get the complete story through an edited FishubTV highlights programme.
The aim is to take members much closer to what’s happening than simply showing a collection of catches. We’ll be talking to anglers while they’re still on the box, getting their thoughts on how their match is developing, what they’re doing and the decisions they’re making.
Our presenter will follow the action around the venue too, bringing together the different stories and explaining how the match is changing as anglers alter methods, areas and approaches throughout the day.
More Than Just Match Highlights
We’ll also be looking closely at the fishing itself.
Each programme will include technical spotlights on subjects relevant to that particular match, giving members a closer look at the tactics, methods and decisions being used by some of the country’s leading match anglers.
The idea is simple: we want you to enjoy following the competition, but we also want you to come away from each programme having learnt something that could help your own fishing.
Alongside the coverage, Fishub members can also get involved through the Fishub Dream Team, selecting their own team of anglers and following their performances as the real Premier League develops.
