Power Claims the Title After Four Rounds of Premier League Action
Two match wins, 403.521kg and a final-round fightback secure a memorable first Fishub Premier League title.
Andy Power has been crowned the first-ever Fishub Premier League champion after four rounds of competition, finishing the season level on 35 points with Tom Edwards but taking the title with the greater overall weight.
Power accumulated an impressive 403.521kg across the four rounds, more than 40kg clear of Edwards’ 362.542kg. Andy Bennett completed the top three with 33 points and 375.271kg.
It was a superbly consistent campaign from Power, beginning with a match win at Tunnel Barn Farm where 104.425kg gave him maximum points. He followed that with eight points in Round 2 before another match-winning performance at Hayfield Lakes, weighing 127.050kg for a second maximum.
That left everything riding on the final round at Monkhall Fishery, where Power had to make some important decisions after a difficult start to keep his title challenge on track.
A Crucial Change at Monkhall Secures the Title
Andy Power entered the final round of the inaugural Fishub Premier League with everything still to play for, but his day at Monkhall Fishery didn’t begin according to plan.
After getting off to a poor start, Power knew he needed to make something happen. A change of bait proved to be a crucial decision, helping turn his match around and keeping him firmly in the hunt when every point mattered.
He eventually weighed 118.550kg, finishing fourth in his section and adding seven points to his season total. Those points took him to 35 overall, exactly level with Tom Edwards.
With the Premier League decided on total weight when anglers finish level on points, Power’s performances throughout the four rounds proved decisive. His combined 403.521kg secured the championship ahead of Edwards on 362.542kg.
Power’s route to the title had been built on two outstanding match-winning performances. He started the campaign in perfect fashion at Tunnel Barn Farm, winning the opening round with 104.425kg and collecting the maximum 10 points.
Round 2 brought another valuable eight points with 53.496kg before he returned to winning ways at Hayfield Lakes. A huge 127.050kg gave Power his second match victory of the season and another maximum 10 points.
The final round demonstrated another side to his fishing. Rather than dominating from the start, Power was forced to react, make changes and find a way back into the match. His decision to switch bait ultimately helped him put together the weight he needed to become the first Fishub Premier League champion.
Behind the top two, Andy Bennett finished an excellent third with 33 points, while Jordan Holloway claimed fourth on 30. Jamie Hughes, James Howarth and Robbie Taylor all finished on 27 points, highlighting just how competitive the first Premier League season proved to be.
